Dungeons & Dragons had one of its biggest announcement seasons in years at Gen Con 2026. According to Variety’s coverage, Wizards of the Coast revealed Star Wars and World of Warcraft-themed tabletop releases under a new “Universes Beyond” banner. The first release, Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft, arrives November 17, 2026, bringing more than two decades of Warcraft lore to the tabletop with 11 new species and nine subclasses, including entirely new additions like Death Knights and Demon Hunters.
What else is on the roadmap
A Star Wars-themed “Season of Rebellion” is planned to follow in 2027, and the long-dormant Dark Sun campaign setting — a brutal post-apocalyptic world last given new sourcebooks in 2010 — is also returning as part of a 2027 “Season of Survival,” reportedly with a mature content rating. More broadly, the tabletop industry is described as being in a genuine transitional period, with competitors like Pathfinder, Daggerheart, and Starfinder Second Edition all gaining ground alongside D&D’s expansion.
Every one of these games still runs on dice
Whatever setting or license a tabletop RPG is built around — a classic D&D dungeon crawl, a Warcraft-themed campaign, or Dark Sun’s harsh desert world — the core mechanic hasn’t changed: rolling dice to resolve actions, from a d20 ability check to a pool of d6s for damage. New settings add new lore and subclasses, not new fundamental math.
Roll before your next session
Whether you’re prepping stats for a new campaign or just want to roll a quick d20 without digging out physical dice, our dice roller supports everything from d4 to d100, with up to 20 dice at once for those big damage rolls.
