Why exact age isn’t just „this year minus birth year“

Subtracting birth year from the current year gives an approximate age, but it’s wrong for roughly a third of the year — anyone whose birthday hasn’t happened yet this calendar year is actually a year younger than that simple subtraction suggests. This calculator instead compares full calendar dates, correctly accounting for whether the birthday has already passed, and for the different number of days in each month.

If you need age as of a specific event (a contract date, an exam date, an application deadline) rather than today, just change the „age as of“ field to that date instead of leaving it on today’s date.
